Imagine you dream of escaping to the stunning Fiji Islands 🏝️, but you're comfortably at home, secretly hoping a magic carpet will whisk you away. Let's just say it'll remain a dream if you don't take action—the same goes for your career!

Too often, I have employees come to me and say, word for word: "My boss isn't doing anything for my career!"
They think their manager is like Aladdin, who can guess everything and guide their path. But you're never better served than by yourself, and that applies to your work too.
Your career progression won't happen by magic if you don't clearly communicate your expectations. Advancing at work isn't like reading an adventure book; you have to be the hero of your own story!
Some are lucky enough to have managers who are involved, present, and who develop growth plans, but not all companies are there yet.
In short, to get your manager involved, it's time to take the reins, make your voice heard, and plan your own path.

Here are some tips to get a conversation about your career going.
Make Yourself Heard
Identify the issues: What do you want to talk about? A promotion? A new project? A new position you want? Focus on it clearly.
Prepare your communication: Once you've identified the issue, prepare your topic. It will be the compass for your discussion.
Choose the right time: Timing is crucial. Find a time that works for both you and your manager for this important conversation.
Be authentic and sincere: Clearly express your aspirations and where you see yourself in the future. Be transparent about your expectations.
Ask for feedback: A conversation is an exchange. Ask for feedback and use it to improve. It's essential for your boss to support you.
Here are some example questions for your manager:
Can you give me feedback on my current performance?
In which areas do you think I excel, and where could I improve?
I'm really interested in [role, project, task].
What do you think I should focus on to be ready?
How do you see my career progression within our team/company?
Do you think I have the potential to take on more senior roles?
Here's how I see myself in the future (describe the role or position). Do you think this aligns with my skills and the direction of our company?
What skills or experiences should I acquire to improve my performance or advance in my career?
Do you feel I have any gaps in my skills or performance? How can I address them?
Could you suggest any training or learning opportunities to help me grow?
What could I change or improve to have a major impact on my professional growth?
What's the worst that can happen?
Perhaps a moment of discomfort, perhaps a little fear, but remember, the biggest regret is the one you will have by letting the opportunity to express your professional aspirations pass you by and remaining stuck in your current role.
The price to pay for staying silent is high – a stagnant career, unrealized potential, and a ton of "what ifs." 🔥
Great meeting,
